Soldier's Shaving Mirror with 6th Corps Insignia in Bone Inlay - Private Levi Huff, 10th New Jersey

$550.00

Item No. 2028383

A really nice soldier’s shaving mirror, in which the soldier carved his name, company, and regiment—he was Private Levi Huff, Company A, 10th New Jersey. He also decorated the mirror with bone inlay in the shape of a greek cross, the symbol of the Union 6th Army Corps. Huff enlisted in December 1863 and mustered out in July 1865, so it’s quite likely this mirror was decorated while the regiment was before Petersburg over the winter of 1864-65. All-wood construction. A wood cover swivels to the side to reveal a 1 3/4” diameter mirror. Overall dimensions are about 2 3/4” x 3 5/8” x 3/4”. Excellent condition with a few light scratches in the mirror face.
