A nice original early Civil War U.S. Pattern 1851 eagle-wreath belt plate, typical of those used by officers in the Union Army. This style is the same as Plate 660 in O'Donnell's and Campbell's American Military Belt Plates (page 398). It is cast brass with integral tongue and applied nickel silver wreath. Includes original keeper. There are no bench numbers on either piece. It measures 81mm x 56mm. Excellent condition as shown.
