A handsome mezzotint engraving portrait of Union General William Tecumseh Sherman by Philadelphia engraver William Sartain (1843-1924). The image is after a Mathew Brady portrait of the general (link to Library of Congress). Fine, with very minor imperfections in the margins. A son of the celebrated engraver and printmaker John Sartain, William Sartain also produced fine engravings of George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, and Robert E. Lee, among others. Overall dimensions: 12” x 15 1/4”.
