A CDV portrait of Major General William S. Rosecrans, the Western Theater general who had early successes in Western Virginia and Tennessee before suffering defeat at the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863. This CDV view is marked on the verso as having been produced by E. & H. T. Anthony of New York, with credit to Mathew Brady’s original negative. Trimmed corners and some damage along the top edge of the mount. Measures about 2 1/2” x 3 3/4”.
