This CDV view features a Union lieutenant or captain recovering from a major facial wound or injury. There appears to be a lot of swelling and misalignment of the features as the unidentified officer attempts to look his best for the camera. There is a cancelled 2-cent revenue stamp on the reverse. No photographer’s imprint. There may be an Iowa connection because the image was part of a group—likely from an album—where the identified soldiers belonged to Iowa regiments (7th Iowa, 25th Iowa). Measures 2 1/2” x 4”.
