A CDV view of William Preston, the Kentucky-born lawyer and politician who later became a Confederate general. Preston served at the head of a Kentucky regiment in the Mexican War and in the years just prior to the Civil War was appointed minister to Spain by President James Buchanan. He resigned in 1861 to join the Confederate service, where he served mainly in staff and brigade-level positions in the Western Theater. In the CDV, Preston poses in Confederate uniform. On the reverse is the imprint of E. & H. T. Anthony of New York. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
