CDV of Union Infantry Officer Armed with Sword by J. H. Pope, Baltimore, Maryland

$135.00

Item No. 0589481

A seated Union Army officer with a handlebar mustache and a serious countenance is featured in this late-war CDV image. The device on his shoulder straps isn’t visible, but his single-breasted frock coat suggests he is a captain or lieutenant. Wearing gauntlets, he holds his cap with one hand and cradles his sword with the other. The cap bears an infantry horn with what appears to be a two-digit number at its center, but I cannot make it out. The fine decorative stitching on the officer’s leather belt and sword strap are clearly visible, while the tassels of his sash hang from his waist. On the reverse are a 2-cent revenue stamp over the imprint of Pope’s Gallery of Photography, 91. W. Baltimore St. Measures about 2 3/8” x 4”.
