A scarce and remarkably clear CDV portrait of Henry A. Purviance, who served with the 12th and later led the 85th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines in May 1862 and was killed August 30, 1863, at Fort Wagner near Charleston, South Carolina. There is no photographer’s imprint or identifying information. The match was made via facial recognition. The carte has slightly trimmed corners and measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
