This CDV view features Confederate General Pierre G. T. Beauregard seated and wearing civilian clothing. Beauregard was the Confederate hero of Fort Sumter and First Manassas in 1861. He served at various other posts from 1862-64 from Tennessee to South Carolina, including as Albert S. Johnston’s second-in-command at the Battle of Shiloh. He was instrumental in preventing Grant’s capture of Petersburg in June 1864. On the reverse is the imprint of E. & H. T. Anthony of New York, with credit to Mathew Brady’s original negative. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
