Civil War-era CDV featuring “Domestic Blockade,” a humorous illustration by Thomas Nast, lithographed by Currier & Ives, and published by the New York Photograph Company. The cartoon depicts two children who have barricaded a doorway with household furniture, transforming their home into a miniature battlefield. A young boy dressed as a Union Zouave guards the improvised fortification with a toy musket while his companion waves an American flag, as an exasperated mother attempts to break through the “blockade” with broom in hand. The reverse bears the New York Photograph Company imprint and the title “Domestic Bockade.” Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
