CDV of Union Officer Identified as "Col. Welsh"

$55.00

Item No. 2992327

A vignette CDV view of a Union officer wearing the shoulder straps of a captain. The photographer’s imprint on the revers is that of M. Moulthrop of New Haven, Connecticut. The image was part of an album assembled by Colonel Bernard J. D. Irwin, the noted army surgeon, naturalist, and Medal of Honor recipient. The album page was labeled “Col. Welsh” at the CDV’s position, and it was alongside a portrait of Assistant Surgeon Samuel S. Jessop, so perhaps the officer is also linked to the medical department. The carte has slightly trimmed corners and measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
