A CDV image by an uncredited photographer featuring First Lieutenant Elisha B. Brainerd, Co. F, 141st Pennsylvania Volunteers. Brainerd was his company’s second lieutenant when they organized in August 1862, was promoted first lieutenant in December 1863, and adjutant in July 1864. According to the regimental history, Brainerd was one of only three officers still with the regiment at the end of the fighting on July 2 at Gettysburg, where they suffered terribly in the Peach Orchard. The image is very clear, with many details of his coat buttons visible. Signed on reverse, “Yours truly / E. B. Brainerd / 1st Lt. Co. “F” 141 Pa Vols.” Slightly trimmed to about 2 1/4” x 3 7/8”.
