A CDV view of First Lieutenant Amasa Beebe Gerould of the 141st Pennsylvania Volunteers. Gerould enlisted as a first sergeant in Company K on August 26, 1862, and was promoted first lieutenant December 5, 1863. On June 18, 1864, when Lieutenant Colonel Guy H. Watkins was mortally wounded leading the regiment in its attack against the rebel works at Petersburg, Gerould assisted Captain Joseph Atkinson in carrying their fallen leader from the field (see History of the One Hundred Forty-first Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1862-1865, by David Craft [1885], 218). Gerould signed the reverse, “B. Gerould / 1st Lieut. Co K 141 P.V.” There is no photographer’s imprint. The carte was slightly trimmed to about 2 3/8” x 3 7/8”.
