CDV of President Andrew Johnson
CDV of President Andrew Johnson
Item No. 8362006
A CDV portrait of Andrew Johnson, the Tennessee senator who was elected vice president in 1864, then became the 17th president of the United States upon the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in 1865. Johnson led the country through the first phases of reconstruction with a contentious, lenient plan for the defeated South that brought him into fierce conflict with Radical Republicans in Congress and led to his impeachment by the House (he was acquitted by a single Senate vote). The CDV measures about 2 1/2” x 4”. There is no artist’s imprint.
