A CDV vignette portrait of Major General Ambrose E. Burnside, after a woodcut engraving of the general. Burnside is best known as succeeding George B. McClellan as commander of the Army of the Potomac in November 1862, then leading it to defeat the following month at the Battle of Fredericksburg. There is no artist’s imprint. The top corners of the mount are trimmed and there is a slight crease that runs diagonally across the portrait. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
