A nice quarter plate ambrotype studio portrait depicting a family of four—father, mother, and two young daughters—housed inside a thermoplastic Union case. The image shows wonderful clarity and composition, capturing the parents seated with their daughters dressed in matching period attire, set within a heavy oval preserver mat with a stamped photographer's mark in the lower corner for the Metropolitan Gallery of Indianapolis. The image appears much more crisp in person than the scans suggest.

The case itself is a highly desirable Union case featuring the “The Parting of Hafed and Hinda” motif (Berg 1-29 / Krainik #35) in excellent condition. No cracks or repairs and only the slightest corner wear.
