Original 1864 Union Party (Republican) election ticket supporting the reelection of Abraham Lincoln for President and Andrew Johnson for Vice President during one of the most consequential elections in American history. Printed for central Illinois voters, the ticket lists the complete Union Party slate, including the sixteen presidential electors headed by John Dougherty, together with the statewide ticket of Richard J. Oglesby for governor, William Bross for lieutenant governor, Sharon Tyndale for secretary of state, Newton Bateman for superintendent of public instruction, and Samuel W. Moulton for Congressman-at-Large. It also includes local candidates for the Seventh Congressional District and county offices, which included towns like Urbana and Decatur. This example remains affixed to an album page, preserving it much as it was saved by a contemporary owner shortly after the election.

Issued for the National Union Party campaign of 1864, the ticket represents the election that returned Lincoln to the presidency while the Civil War was still being fought. Lincoln’s decisive victory over George B. McClellan affirmed public support for continuing the war to victory in 1865.
