CDV of General Richard S. Satterlee, a medical officer who during the Civil War served in the Medical Purveyor's Office in New York City. He was also the inventor of a bone saw with a pistol grip used in amputations, a design still in use today. On the reverse is the New York backmark of E. & H. T. Anthony, with credit to the Mathew Brady original. This image was No. 84 in the General B. J. D. Irwin collection of U.S. & C.S. commanders.
