Featured in this CDV image is General John Pope, most famous as commander of the Army of Virginia during the defeat at the Second Battle of Bull Run in August 1862. In this 3/4 view of Pope, the general wears a double-breasted frock with hand tucked in the Napoleon pose. On the reverse is the imprint of E. Anthony of New York, with credit to Mathew Brady’s negative. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
