Signed Postwar Veteran Cabinet Card — Colonel William Ralls Morrison, 49th Illinois Volunteers — Wounded at Battle of Fort Donelson

$80.00

Item No. 5054331

This cabinet card features William Ralls Morrison, who fought in the Mexican War, mined gold in the California gold rush, organized and commanded a regiment in the Civil War, and later served several terms in the Illinois House of Representatives. Morrison was appointed colonel of the 49th Illinois in 1861 and was wounded at the Battle of Fort Donelson, leading to his resignation in December 1862. Morrison signed his name in ink directly on the albumen underneath his portrait. The card was trimmed down to 4 1/4” x 6 1/4”, with the photographer’s imprint removed from the bottom edge. On the reverse are several pencil inscriptions (not visible in the scan) and a small yellow tag with general details about Morrison. Aside from the trimmed bottom edge the card is in excellent condition.
