Item #SQ1932631

Offered here is a very interesting undated Civil War No. 40 requisition form signed by Brigadier General J. H. Hobart Ward, an officer most noteworthy as a brigade commander at Gettysburg, as part of Sickles's 3rd Army Corps. The requisition is for eight "paulins," or tarps, "for the purpose of covering place of Armament for benefit of division." It is signed by Ward as Brigadier General. It is also signed twice by Captain Vatchel, adjutant general for the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 3rd Corps. The document likely dates to 1863 or early 1864, before the 3rd Corps was dissolved and Ward's brigade assigned to the 2nd Corps.

The requisition form measures about 8" x 10 1/4" and has two horizontal creases from previous folds. The paper is in good sturdy condition, not stiff, and not particularly delicate. Very little wear to edges and corners.
