Item No. 2359877

An interesting January 1864 brigade-level clothing and equipment requisition signed by Major Jonathan Wesley Gordon, a Union Army officer who was then in command of a 5th Corps brigade of U.S. Regulars in the Army of the Potomac (1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 5th Corps). The form, a No. 40 Special Requisition, was made out by Captain Frederick Winthrop of the 12th U.S. Infantry, who was acting brigade quartermaster. The form lists many stationery items needed for the officers' correspondence, including several varieties of paper, envelopes, blotting sheets, ink stands, bottles of black and red ink, steel pens, lead pencils, tape, sealing wax, wafers, rubber, ink powder, and a ruler. The document is signed once by Gordon and twice by Winthrop.

The document measures about 8" x 10 1/2" and is in excellent condition, as shown. Minor wear to edges and corners. Little foxing and toning. Creased where originally folded.
