Item No. 6235375

This is an interesting December 1863 requisition signed by Colonel Sidney Burbank, a Union Army officer who commanded a 5th Corps brigade of U.S. Regulars at the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. The form, a No. 40 Special Requisition, was made out by Captain Henry Ashfield Ellis of the 17th U.S. Infantry, who was then serving as quartermaster for Burbank's brigade—the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 5th Corps. The form lists many items presumably needed for maintenance of the brigade's supply wagons. It lists wagon bows, buckets, whips, saddler's tools, nuts, bolts, iron hoops, leather harnesses, rope, and more. The document is signed once by Burbank and twice by Ellis. It measures about 8” x 10 1/4” and is in very good condition. Light wear to edges and corners. Creased where originally folded.
