Item No. SQ1711093

Here is a nice 1863 Confederate pass related to the Battle of Chickamauga. Written on September 26, just a week after the battle, the pass authorized Doctor A. Clements of Bibb County, Alabama to travel to “Bragg’s Army, Tenn” and then to return home. Presumably the doctor was being summoned to assist with casualties from Chickamauga. The pass was signed by a lieutenant whose signature I can’t quite decipher..perhaps “A. M. Primm”? Also interesting is the “description” portion of the pass that lists Doctor Clements as being 48 years old, with blue eyes, sandy hair, and other characteristics that would make it difficult for another person to use the pass. Clements’s signature is on the reverse.

The pass measures about 8 1/4” x 2 3/4” and is in very good condition. Light wear to edges and corners. Creased where originally folded.
