This is a nice early 1862 Confederate broadside with Texas content. Dated January 13th, 1862 from the Headquarters of the Department of Texas, the order concerned payment of Confederate government debts. The order was issued by Brigadier General Paul Octave Hebert and signed by his adjutant, Major Samuel B. Davis. The order reads in full:

Head Quarters, Department of Texas,
Houston, January 13th, 1862

General Order, No. 3.

I.  It being the obvious and settled policy of the Government, that its just debts be paid with as little delay as possible. Accounting and Disbursing Officers shall take care that no undue obstacles be thrown in the way of the settlement, or placing in progress of settlement, of all claims duly authenticated, and accompanied with the necessary paper vouchers.

The honest public creditor must be protected in his rights, and the credit of the Government mainteined.

II.  Economy, and a rigid compliance with the Regulations, are enjoined upon all Officers charged with the disbursements of public funds, and the making of contracts on the part of the Government.

Docketed on reverse. The order was printed on a single sheet measuring about 5" x 8". It is in very good condition. The paper is of higher quality than most Confederate paper. Light wear to edges and corners. Minor foxing and toning. There is a single vertical crease where the document was originally folded.
