A nice CDV featuring a Union captain with an impressive set of whiskers in the Ambrose Burnside fashion. The backmark is for H. Goldsticker, Army of the Cumberland. There is a pencil note on the reverse suggesting this officer was chief quartermaster of the Department of Georgia. Through research, the only officer I could find who held that title was Captain Charles Kilgore Smith, originally of the 26th Ohio, but the identification cannot be certain without more evidence. The carte measures about 2 1/2” x 4” and is in excellent condition.
