An excellent CDV of Captain James O. Paxson of the 48th New York Infantry, who was mortally wounded July 18, 1863 at the Second Battle of Fort Wagner (following the attack of the 54th Massachusetts). There is a revenue stamp on the reverse, indicating that this CDV was published posthumously. The reverse also features the backmark of the photographer Morris Moses of Trenton, New Jersey. The carte is in very good condition with clipped corners and minor foxing. It measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
