Item No. 0583626

A CDV of Colonel Lucius B. Marsh, commander of the 47th Massachusetts Infantry, a nine-month regiment. The 47th was largely recruited through the efforts of Marsh, a Boston merchant, and it was called the “Merchant’s Guard Regiment.” The carte was trimmed down to 2 1/4” x 3 1/2”, likely so it would fit in an album. There is a pencil ID on the reverse above the backmark of photographer J. W. Black of Boston.
