Item No. 0822188

A very nice CDV view of an officer of Her Majesty’s army in Canada identified in period ink as Lieutenant A. J. Kentish of the 69th Regiment. He is handsomely dressed in a fine double-breasted coat with decorative piping across the front and on the sleeves. The lapels are lined with animal fur—likely buffalo. He wears heavy gloves and a hat of the same fur. His sword is held in one hand while the other rests on the back of a chair. The backmark is that of Smith & Edy of Brantford, Ontario. The image dates from 1867-1870, when the 69th was on duty in Canada and helped defeat a Fenian Raid at the Battle of Trout River in May 1870. The carte is in excellent condition and measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
