Item No. 1683915

A very nice ninth plate ruby ambrotype of Private Adolphus Knox of the 56th New York (10th Legion). The “X” badge on Knox’s New York state jacket signifies the 10th Legion, the regiment’s original name (the cavalry and artillery sections of the “Legion” were separated from the infantry companies). He also has an unusual eagle-shape brass badge on the front of his forage cap. The image is in very good condition and is housed in a full leather case with patriotic mat.

Knox is listed in HDS as having died of disease in June 1862 at White House, Virginia.
