1864 Letter / Order - Brigade Quartermaster William S. Vatchett (20th Indiana) to 110th Pennsylvania QM

Item No. 2820754

Offered here is an interesting April 1864 Civil War letter regarding quartermaster requisitions between the 110th Pennsylvania Volunteers and its parent unit, the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, II Corps, Army of the Potomac. In the letter, brigade quartermaster Captain William S. Vatchett (originally of the 20th Indiana) writes to the 110th's regimental quartermaster Lieutenant Edward G. Dorsey regarding requisitions. It reads:

A.A.Q.M. Office 1st Brig.
April 12 1864

Lieut
I herewith send you requisitions for the whole amount of C.C. & G.E. [Clothing, Camp, & Garrison Equipage] drawn by you during the month of April, which you will please have signed and properly approved by the Reg'l Commander. we will then return the original one.

Respectfully,
W. S. Vatchett
Capt. & A.A.Q.M.

Lieut. E. G. Dorsey
110th P.V.I.

Blank on reverse.

The letter was written upon a single stationery sheet measuring about 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" and is in excellent condition, as shown. Very little wear to edges and corners, except along the left edge where Vatchett removed this sheet from its other half. Little foxing and toning. Creased where originally folded.

This document came from an extensive archive of 110th Pennsylvania documents kept by the later regimental quartermaster, Lieutenant Samuel D. Hays.
