Offered here is an interesting April 20, 1865 set of marching orders for the 25th Army Corps. The order was written and signed by Captain W. Luther Goodrich, an adjutant on Major General Godfrey Weitzel's staff. Written upon "Army of the James" stationery, the order specified campsites for April 20, as well as the marching order for April 21. The order reads:

Headquarters 25th Army Corps
Army of the James
In the Field, Va April 20th 1865

Special Orders No. 105

3. The troops of this command will change camp tomorrow. The 1st Division will encamp on Cox's road, westward of Mr. J. Read's house.

The 2d Division will encamp on the road leading from the Boydtown at Wall's House to the Cox road at Read's house and on the spot indicated to the Commanding Officer of the Division to day.

The camp of the Artillery will be designated hereafter by the Commanding General.

The column will move at 7 A.M. and in the following order.

1st Infantry, 2d Division leading. 2d Ambulances. 3d Artillery. 4th Wagon trains.

The order is docketed on the reverse side.

The document measures 8" x 10". The paper is in very good condition and isn't stiff or particularly delicate. Some minor wear to corners and edges.
