Offered here is an interesting May 1865 hand-written general order written by 1st Lieutenant Theron Upson, of the 1st Connecticut Light Battery (and A.A.A.G. to Captain L. L. Langdon, commanding the 25th Corps Artillery Brigade), regarding the transfer of Lieutenant James Lawson. The order reads:

Head Quarters Lt Art'y Brigade
25th Army Corps
In the field, Va. May 1st 1865

Special Orders No. 45

I. 1st Lt James Lawson, 2d Mass Art'y, attached to Battery "D" 1st U.S. Art'y is relieved from duty with that Battery, and assigned to duty in "M" Co. 1st U.S. Art'y.
