Item No. SQ0185205

Offered here is an interesting 1860 Treasury Department receipt to Confederate General George H. Steuart(frequently misspelled "Stewart"), then serving as a captain in the 1st United States Cavalry stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. Steuart resigned his commission eight months after this receipt and was commissioned in the Confederate Army. Steuart commanded troops at many of the major battles in the east including First Manassas, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness.

The order was written upon a blue sheet of paper measuring about 8" x 9 7/8". The paper is in good sturdy condition, not stiff, and not delicate. Very little wear to edges and corners. Creases where originally folded. Some separation at the folds has begun, but isn't serious.
