Item No. 6912638

This is an interesting Civil War requisition form written out by Major Isaac T. Hamilton, commanding the 110th Pennsylvania Volunteers. While the document is undated, it is most certainly from late in 1864 as the regiment was engaged in the Siege of Petersburg. The No. 40 Special Requistion lists the quantities of items required by the regiment. In the certification underneath the list, Hamilton wrote, "Recruits and Convelescents Coming to the Regt and also the weather rendering more Clothing necessary for the Comfort of the men." The items include greatcoats (27), uniform jackets (198), infantry pants (38), cavalry pants (26), drawers (69), shirts (70), shoes (29), stockings (105), knapsacks (9), knapsack straps (52), forage caps (43), wool blankets (34), rubber blankets (22), haversacks (11), canteens (7), shelter tent pieces (26), and a variety of drum parts (snare, cord, etc.). It is signed twice by Major Hamilton.

The form measures about 8" x 10 1/4" and is in excellent condition as shown. Briefly docketed on reverse. Little wear to edges and corners. Little foxing or toning. Creased where originally folded.

This document came from an extensive archive of 110th Pennsylvania documents kept by the regimental quartermaster, Samuel D. Hays.
