Item #SQ5418566

Offered here is an excellent Civil War CDV. The image features Union General Winfield Scott. On the reverse is the back mark of Anthony. The front of the image is marked "Brady NY" just to the left of the General's hip.

The CDV measures 2 3/8" x 3 7/8" and is in excellent condition as shown, with portions of the back slightly rough from where it had been placed in an album.

Veteran of the War of 1812 and hero of the war with Mexico, Winfield Scott, "Old Fuss and Feathers," was fading by the arrival of the Civil War. While General-in-Chief during 1861, it was Scott who collected and organized Union forces ahead of Bull Run. He was also author of the "Anaconda Plan" by which, he argued, the seceding states would be forced to rejoin the Union. Scott was replaced by George McClellan in November, 1861.
