CDV of Union General John Sedgwick - Killed at Spotsylvania Court House - Anthony Backmark

159.99

Item No. SQ4870390

This is a nice Civil War CDV of Union General John Sedgwick, known as "Uncle John" to his adoring 6th Corps men. Sedgwick was killed at Spotsylvania while directing a body of infantry to clear out of an artillery battery's front. "They can't hit an elephant at that distance," he said before falling to a rebel sharpshooter.

The reverse features the backmark of E&HT Anthony of New York.

The CDV measures about 2 1/2" x 4" and is in very good condition as shown. Some light toning to the mount and a nick on its upper edge. Another nick on the right edge of the albumen.
