Anthony of New York and indicates the image is from a Mathew Brady negative. There is also an added stamp for "Daeton & Lucy, Booksellers to the Queen, 28 Cockspur St. Charing Cross."

The CDV measures 2 1/2" x 4" and is in excellent condition as shown.

A "political general," Ben Butler held high commands in New Orleans and North Carolina, and commanded the Army of the James in Virginia before being relieved after the 1864 election. After the war, Butler would serve several terms in Congress. He served briefly as Governor of Massachusetts before launching an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1884.
