A nice CDV of Private Eber R. Robertson of the 4th South Carolina Cavalry, who while serving as a courier for General Matthew Butler, was accidentally killed by a sentinel near Petersburg, Virginia in September 1864. He is identified in pencil at the bottom of the carte (whether this is Robertson’s signature or not is unknown). The backmark is that of Wearn & Hix of Columbia, South Carolina. The carte is in very good condition with light toning. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
