Item No. 3114299

A nice gelatin silver print of an infantry company street in winter quarters. Men are arranged on both sides, many with their muskets, some smoking on cigars, and others holding their fifes and drums. Neatly arranged huts or cabins are visible behind the men. An infantry horn badge is visible on the forage cap of the man on the extreme left, but the numbers above the horn aren’t legible. The image is attached to a mount measuring about 8 1/2” x 6 1/2”. On the reverse is a tag with an 1898 date, which may be when the print was made. It is marked as having been ordered by Miss Francis Benjamin Johnston, the early photographer and photojournalist.
