CDV of Union General Peter J. Osterhaus

100.00

Item No. 4642648

A nice CDV view of General Peter J. Osterhaus, who was born in Prussia but emigrated to the United States after finding himself on the losing side in the Revolutions of 1848. Settling in St. Louis, Osterhaus was commissioned Major in the 2nd Missouri Volunteers, serving with the regiment at Wilson’s Creek and Pea Ridge. After receiving his general’s star, Osterhaus participated in the battles of Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Atlanta, and the March to the Sea. The carte is in very good condition except for having been clipped to fit in an album. It measures about 2 1/2” x 3”. No backmark.
