A nice CDV view featuring General Marcellus M. Crocker. Crocker was commissioned a captain in the 2nd Iowa in mid-1861 and colonel of the 13th Iowa that December. He commanded his regiment and then his brigade at Shiloh and Corinth before being promoted to brigadier general in November 1862. He led a division at Jackson, Champion Hill, and Vicksburg before failing health required that he be sent to the arid southwest. He returned in early 1865, but his health continued to suffer and he died in Washington, DC in August 1865. The carte is in very good condition and measures about 2 1/2” x 3 3/4”.
