Item No. 0423097

A nice CDV view of Union General John E. Wool. Born in 1794, Wool was a career US Army officer and veteran of the War of 1812, Mexican War, and other conflicts. Though quite old by the time of the Civil War, Wool remained relatively active, commanding at Fortress Monroe for a time before being transferred to command of the Middle Department in 1862 and the Department of the East in 1863.

The carte measures about 2 1/2” x 4” and is in excellent condition. The backmark is that of Edward Anthony of New York.
