Item No. 7874424

A nice CDV of James Simons, who was a general in the South Carolina Militia, was the first general officer appointed in the Confederate Army by Jefferson Davis, and commanded the defenses on Morris Island during the bombardment of Fort Sumter in April 1861. The carte is in very good condition with very minor foxing and toning. There is a slight crease across the lower left corner. The reverse bears the backmark of E. & H. T. Anthony of New York. The CDV measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
