Item No. 5130779

A nice 1864 Confederate document, partially printed and partially written, filled out on October 22, 1864, from South Carolina’s Camp of Instruction. The document states that 18-year-old James Chesnut of Horry County was ordered to report to Company C, 2nd South Carolina Volunteers. It was signed by an officer, William T. Roath. A stamp near the left margin shows that Chesnut was to be furnished transportation from Columbia, South Carolina to Richmond, Virginia. Docketed on reverse. The document is on typical thin Confederate paper measuring about 9 1/4” x 8”. Moderate but even toning and light foxing. Creased where folded. There are also a couple of small holes where folds cross.
