An interesting partially printed / partially written 1866 surgeon’s discharge document for Private Samuel Rivers of the 7th U.S. Infantry Regiment. Rivers, a musician in private life, enlisted in February 1863 for five years, serving for the balance of the Civil War. His disability discharge was granted in November 1866, at which time he was due more than $200 in back pay, bounty, and clothing not drawn. The discharge was signed by Brevet Captain Frederick E. Grossmann, also of the 7th Infantry.

The document is in excellent condition and measures about 8” x 10”. Very light toning in places. Creased where originally folded.
