An interesting special order dated January 8, 1863, promoting Captain John Cooke Cox of the Commissary Department to Lieutenant Colonel. He was ordered to report to the corps commander in the field (General James B. McPherson). It is signed at the bottom by the Assistant Adjutant General of the Army, Edward D. Townsend. It measures about 8” x 9 3/4” and is in very good condition. Minor toning and creased where originally folded (reinforced with tape on reverse).
