Item No. 9451548

An interesting 1863 document signed by Union General Charles S. Hamilton, who then commanded District of West Tennessee and the Left Wing of the XVI Corps. It is a payment voucher for one L. H. Naron, who was due $156 on February 10:

For special service rendered as guide and scout for Left Wing Army of the Tenn. and of the List. of Memphis from Dec. 21st 1862 to Feby 10th 1863, inclusive (52) fifty two days at #3.00 pr. day.

Approved
C. S. Hamilton
Maj. Gen.

Below Hamilton’s signature is the signature of 1st Lieut. Zeph C. Bryan, provost marshal for the Left Wing. Bryan was originally from the 27th Ohio. He would later be wounded in July 1864 before Atlanta, and would die at home a month later.

The document is in excellent condition, measuring about 7 3/4” x 9 3/4”. There is a red clerical arrow affixed to the paper as shown. Light toning. Creased where originally folded.
