1862 Broadside - Charlestown Navy Yard - Labor Union Meeting of Mechanics & Laborers - Boston

$0.00

Item No. SQ9871018

Offered here is an interesting original broadside dated September 3, 1862, "To the Mechanics and Laborers of the Charlestown Navy Yard." A meeting was advertised in which several committees would give reports. A union meeting, perhaps?

An adjourned meeting of the Mechanics and Laborers, will be held in the City Hall on THURSDAY evening, Sept. 4th, at 7 1-2 o'clock. At which meeting the Report of the following Committee of one person from each department of the Navy Yard will be made:

[List of workers' names appears here]

It is earnestly requested that every member of the various departments will attend, and do all they can to carry forward, with success, the original intentions of the meeting.

The REV. MR. AVERY, of Boston, and FARMER ALLEN, are expected to address the meeting.

HENRY A. QUINCY, President
E. W. WILDER, Secretary

Charlestown Navy Yard, September 3d, 1862.

The broadside measures about 7 1/4" x 7 3/4" and is printed upon very thin paper. It's in excellent sturdy condition, however; not stiff, and not particularly delicate. Light wear to corners and edges. There are creases where the document was at one time folded. Interestingly, you can see how it was folded when the ink was still wet, transferring some title ink to the bottom portion of the broadside.
