February 1865 Letter by 24th Corps Staff Officer Captain William S. Hubbell, Formerly 21st Connecticut, Regarding Pioneer Detail

In this brief February 1865 communication, Captain William S. Hubbell, a division staff officer in the Union Army’s 24th Corps, writes to Captain Cyrus W. Cook about “1 Corporal and 12 Privates, detailed in accordance with orders from Division Hd. Qrs.” Hubbell signed the letter at the conclusion. At this time in 1865, the 24th Corps was participating in the operations against Richmond, Virginia. Both Hubbell and Cook had originally been members of the 21st Connecticut. The full letter reads:

Feb’y 7th 1865

I have the honor to forward herewith 1 Corporal and 12 Privates, detailed in accordance with orders from Division Hd. Qrs.
